Local crafts are everywhere and you can get some nice wooden souvenirs. Make sure you bargain because you can be ripped off. The best place to buy crafts is in the markets. Make sure any wooden item has a certificate to sat it has been treated for pests, since you may not be allowed to bring it back into your country of origin.

The large South Seas Treasures emporium has unusual ornaments and an array of Balinese and Javanese carvings. Anita on Main Street in Nadi has gold jewellery made in India and Singapore and pearl necklaces and earrings. Prouds sells lustrous black pearls from Savusavu.

Navini Island is the perfect tropical holiday destination http://www.fiji-holiday-accommodation.com/navini-island/navini-island-is-the-perfect-tropical-holiday-destination/ http://www.fiji-holiday-accommodation.com/navini-island/navini-island-is-the-perfect-tropical-holiday-destination/#comments Thu, 14 Apr 2011 01:23:31 +0000 admin http://www.fiji-holiday-accommodation.com/?p=25 Navini Island is an excellent choice for a Fiji honeymoon, and as one of the smallest island resorts close to Nadi, it is a private resort where you can expect a casual and thoroughly relaxed time. The closeness to the international airport makes it an obvious choice for the first few days of relaxation after stepping off a long haul flight from say Europe, before beginning a sweep of the South Pacific. You will be met by Navini Island Resort staff at the airport and within an hour you will be at Navini, and even swimming off the beach. There are no crowds here because there are no day-trippers. You can wander round the island in 10 minutes, because Navini is a coral cay and is only ever a few feet above the sea. There are coconut palms, and lots of shade, and masses of tropical flowers.

Exclusive and limited accommodation

Navini has only 12 bures including a honeymoon bure, all on the beach and overlooking the coral reef, which makes it the perfect start to your Fiji honeymoon. There are 36 island staff which outnumbers the guests so you will get to know the smiling Fijian staff and appreciate their infectious enthusiasm and laughter, and also appreciate their culture and generous hospitality which is unequalled anywhere. Once a week there is a traditional Fijian night with a ëlovoí which is food cooked underground, and then a kava ceremony with Fijian singing by the staff.

Apart from accommodation, which is very comfortable, food and drink feature highly on any vacation package, and you will not be disappointed. Navini’s dining room is open air beautifully situated between the tropical gardens and the turquoise sea. The food is a mix between traditional Fijian and innovative cuisine. There are choices at all times, and always beautiful fresh fish and local fruit, everything cooked in the kitchen.

You can go scuba diving, para sailing, sail a hobycat, a sailboard, a spyboard, or go sea cycle sports fishing. If you still feel energetic there is the afternoon volleyball game, or you could take it easy and read a book from the resort library or perhaps even enjoy a massage.

Matangi Island Resort http://www.fiji-holiday-accommodation.com/matangi-island/matangi-island-resort/ http://www.fiji-holiday-accommodation.com/matangi-island/matangi-island-resort/#comments Thu, 14 Apr 2011 01:20:45 +0000 admin http://www.fiji-holiday-accommodation.com/?p=23 Matangi is a 240 acre island which is privately owned in Fijiís northern group of islands. It has 11 beachfront bures, and 3 tree house suites; all built traditionally, and each with superb views. The beachfront bures are under the palm trees, and well spaced out for privacy. Each bure has king sized beds in the very spacious sleeping area. There is a good size living area, good en-suite facilities and a verandah. In fact exactly the facilities you would expect to find in a first class luxury hotel, except it looks like a traditional Fijian village. The Matangi Island resort is the perfect solution and in fact is also an ideal place for a Fiji holiday. Matangi is like having your own private Fijian Island, and it is a very exclusive small resort, combining privacy, lovely beaches, great staff to guest ratio, good snorkeling, scuba diving, and superb food.

One of the best opportunities given whilst staying on Matangi is to be around the local islanders, and the resort ensures you have the chance of doing just this. There are weekly trips to a traditional Fijian village on the neighboring island of Qama, and if you possibly can then ask to go to the Fijian mass at the Catholic church on Taveuni. Take a picnic on honeymoon cove, and go to the waterfalls.

Superb Dining on Matangi

Meals are served in the Dining Bure or on the Deck which sits out over the water with wonderful views over the neighboring islands. All three meals plus snacks are included in the daily rate. The food here is excellent. For breakfast there is a hot menu and a fruit and cereal buffet style selection. Lunch and Dinner has the choice of salad or soup, a main course and sweet. Add to this afternoon tea and cakes and evening appetizers. The only things you have to pay for are alcohol, because water, tea, coffee and breakfast juices are included in the daily rate. The menu changes every day and the service is excellent.
